Four students from the 2014 Humanities Access Programme have accepted invitations to join the Golden Key Society.

They are Ms Thandeka Mkhwane, Ms Nonkululeko Nkosi, Ms Neliswa Dlamini and Mr Xolani Malindisa.

The Society selects students who have performed outstandingly in their academic year. Academic and administrative coordinator of the programme, Dr Veena Lutchman, believes that all the four students have worked consistently throughout the year.

‘The Access Programme is intended for students who come from Quintile 1 and 2 schools and it is wonderful that the hard work by these students has been acknowledged,’ said Lutchman, who added that the achievement indicated that if students were given the right tools to study at an academic level, they had the power to excel.

The students see the Society’s invitation as a huge honour and a testament to their hard work. Mkhwane said: ‘This is such an achievement for all of us. We’ve worked so hard and to be recognised for that alone is great.’

Malindisa added: ‘We’re proud of how far we’ve come and we thank the Society for giving us this opportunity.’

The students believe that being a part of such a prestigious society will allow them to be role models to other students and to empower the youth.
